Use of TV Converter Box

I am thinking about dropping COMCAST and reverting to a TV Converter Box.

Is there a site that explains the limitations of Converter Boxes?

I assume a Converter will allow me to get all the "big" commercial channels like NBC, CBS, and Fox, right?
What about PBS, MSNBC, C-Span?

If your TV is HD you need to make sure that the box outputs HD via HDMI (some are for SD sets and won't do this).
