using 2nd monitor on laptop

hi i'm trying to connect a 2nd monitor to my sisters laptop but its not being detected. she is studying through the OU and they sent her the 2nd monitor to help with her studies

her laptop is a HP 7th gen intel I5 (15-ay167sa) and the monitor that they sent her is a Philips 203v5lsb26/10

this has a VGA connection only so I got her to buy a VGA to HDMI connector and then connected VGA cable to 2nd monitor and Connector and HDMI from connector to laptop

when I went to Philips site to get the driver there wasn't a driver for windows 10 so was wondering if this monitor even works with win 10

all advice is greatly appreciated

What HDMI-to-VGA cable did you buy?

the packaging says TOPOP VGA to HDMI adapter convertor cable with audio support for HDTV PC the code on it is ( TPCL031AB) I got it from Amazon for 11.99 and it turned up in a white plastic bag with nothing with it apart from cable
