using tv as a monitor but cannot get sound from headphones when i plug them into the tvbut do when plugged into the computer

i have my isymphony 32" tv connected to my hp desktop and using as a monitor when i connect my firestick i want i to get sound through my headphones when i connect them to the computer but not when i connect them directly to the tv the sound keeps coming out through the tv speakers but not the headphones.

TVs are not your smartphone, you plug in the headphone and BAM, it knows what you want to do. With TVs, you have to TELL it, hey, use the headphone's output. So TV configuration ---> Audio/Sound blah-blah.
