Hey community,

Anyone here using one of those two torrent programs? I know that both softwares are made from BitTorrent company, but I just don't get why they have to make two in a same company? Anyways, what is the difference between those two? Which one do you prefer better? What is the goods and bads of both softwares? Thanks.

I don't know why either. It just makes the customers more confused since they are both the same...

Both are BitTorrent client. BitTorrent software was created by Bram to implement the protocol, however uTorrent was a separate company which was later bought by BitTorrent Inc. They kept the product going with original name so as to not affect the user-base.
Here's more detailed answer -

It is fairly easy to believe that BitTorrent and uTorrent are the same programs, especially since they were both designed by the same company and they both have the primary objective of allowing their users to download and upload files that can be used within a peer-to-peer file sharing system. However, it is important to keep in mind that there are several key differences that distinguish these two programs from each other.

The Implementation of BitTorrent Protocol
One of the major differences that you will notice between these two programs after very little research is that they did not begin to implement BitTorrent protocol at the same time. Contrary to popular belief, uTorrent was also not the first one to implement this before BitTorrent. BitTorrent was actually the first of the two programs to implement this protocol within its programming when it was developed in 2001. uTorrent was not purchased by BitTorrent, Inc. until five years later in 2006.

The Searching & Downloading Capabilities
There is a search box that is integrated within BitTorrent that allows users to search for the torrent files that they desire to download and then download them with ease and simplicity. On the other hand, in order to search for files through uTorrent, you have to customize the search box that is integrated within their system based on your specific needs and expectations. If you use BitTorrent, you are able to have multiple downloads of multiple files running at the same exact time. UTorrent users do not have this ability and can only download single files while their other files have to wait in queue.

Analysis and Overall Portability
Loyal users of the popular program, BitTorrent, have always praised the fact that the statistics and analysis reporting of downloads as they progress towards completion is a key factor that is made available through user-friendly graphic displays within BitTorrent while, on the other hand, this accommodation is not made available through uTorrent as of yet. However, when it comes to overall portability, uTorrent wins this specific battle when placed in a competitive war against BitTorrent. If you are interested in pursuing a hobby or even career in personally creating your own torrent files, then you are definitely going to want to go with BitTorrent because uTorrent does not allow you to be able to have this type of capability within their programming.

Accessibility
UTorrent has also been proven to have a lot of problems when it comes to overall accessibility in comparison to BitTorrent. Unless you have WebUI plugged in and active, uTorrent cannot support any other type system controlling its features. Even though there is a version available for the Mac operating system, it is extremely discreet. That still does give it a slight advantage over BitTorrent, however, which is not accessible at all through any Mac operating system as of yet.
When it comes down to the bottom line, there are quite a few similarities that are shared between BitTorrent and uTorrent but there are also several key differences between the two programs as well. It truly just depends on your own personal preferences and expectations as a user.
