Vaio power problem

Hi

I am currently working on a Sony Vaio PCG-FX501. It will not start with the
battery connected and the mains disconnected (no lights come on). If the
battery is connected and the mains is also connected, it will start to boot,
then switch off after about 20 seconds (I assume this is when the battery
life runs out). If I remove the battery and try to start with just the
mains connected, then the computer will not start (the power and battery
LEDs come on as long as the power button is depressed, but go off when it is
released). Has anyone got any ideas?

Does this have a Reset switch anywhere on the case? If not, it might be
a corrupted BIOS which can be reset by removing batter and external
power, opening the case and briefly removing the CMOS battery to clear
the BIOS. There is a sort of universal fix which works on some laptops:
remove battery and external power, hold down the power button for one
minute. Restore external power and see if it boot. Also, try this site
