This is why we need monopoly enforcement here in America, AND why we need serious action against spam.

Firstly, its clear that all these companies are colluding, in their actions and words they are making it known that they will start charging for something that today they already include in their service, and slowly, they are making it known to all the other companies.

Need more bandwidth? Expand your network. Does that cost money? Yes. Does that mean that part of what we are paying now will have to go somewhere other than your pockets? Yes.

Secondly, how many studies have we seen that state that a majority of internet traffic is just spam email? Stuff that gets put into its own email box and thrown out?

If advertisers were not allowed to use spam, then most of the current problem (which again, in the long run can only be alleviated with network upgrades) would be gone.

I really dislike Verizon... all cell phone companies charge too much for text messages. A 160 character text message is like 50 bytes. As far as other content goes, stop paying your execs ridiculous salaries and fix your network, then we'll talk.

Go sob in your momma's tits. Grow up and get a life. You goddamn bandwidth hog. You probably don't even pay for your internet. Assumptions, assumptions.. probably dead accurate based on your 2 word response to REALITY.

This is almost insanity. I really don't have ANY information about percentages but I know DAAAAAMN well that if 300 million people are on the INTERNET at the same time, downloading approximitely 20KB's, that's alot of information. Now, multiply that by 200. Why is anyone in shock and udder disbelief that the internet will eventually be throttled? This is retarded. I am done.

Okay... we'll give you 16mbps download performance... but because YOU use it, we'll either throttle you down to ###mbps (300k?) and/or charge you per megabyte.

Why offer a service you can support?

"Bunch of bs is you ask me. If these management types weren't so greedy to begin with, and put the profits where they belong, into the company and not their pockets, there would be no problem supporting expanding bandwidth. Especially since it keeps getting cheaper.""

Verizon Has a BIG Mouth.it says Lots os Shit About their Internet Connection,That they have the Fastest Bla Bla bla and they say lot of things About Cable.but now we know is all BS!!!

I think it would be interesting to just get rid of all these crappy corporations that are currently our ISP's and replace them with some sort of no profit organization that simply uses the money they make to pay for network maintenance and for upgrading the network as well.

Although I honestly believe that ISP's are exaggerating the strain on their networks, I've never understood why that led to capping.

Why not just pay like electricity or water? I can pull in all the water I want to use and I pay $.01 per gallon (or whatever). So why can't we just pay something reasonable. Like a penny/GB. So for $30 I can get 3,000 GB's of data, which is way more than I'll use, even if I'm torrenting day and night.

The problem comes when they tell me that that GB cost them a dollar. I don't buy it.

Also why cut off my connection? Why not let me download whatever I want if I'm willing to pay for it? Why do most of these capping companies not offer unlimited plans for those willing to pay?

To Verizon's defense, FiOS has cost them BILLIONS upon billions of dollars. It is Verizon who got the ball rolling on FTTH (or FTTP), and they are ahead in service quality, availability, and customer service"

Verizon Customer Service is NOT that Great.(if u have a Problem with FIOS it takes much longer for then to fix your problem!availability is VERY LIMITED.
Now the Cable Companys they started running FIBER way before Verizon.

It's funny how businesses these days complain when people use their product. Capitalism would work if you didn't have collusion between companies to keep prices high.

Maybe we should stop relying on copper cable!
eriously, fuck metal cables.

All homes and databases/servers (everything) should run on a gigabit (125 megabyte) fiber optic connection at the bare mininum...

Quite curious... Here in Portugal(Europe) we are getting more speed and less capping as time passes. When I first got broadband here, years ago I started with 512Mbps and some GB limit (3 I think). Now, same price as always been, I have 24Mbps and no limit.
Wideband FiberOptic is available for little more, 120Mbps and no limit.

Wireless access (GPRS, HSDPA) just got a version with no limit at max speed of 5Mbps a few days ago.

It is the same internet :\

Considering that I work for Verizon and that the FiOS is my main area, you are right and wrong.

While every house that Verizon installs FiOS in cost $15,000 most of the Fiber lines are run by the city and or state. Thats why most areas that don't have FiOS don't have much more than 20Mbps Cable speeds, mainly because the city/state wont dish the money out to lay them.

Overall, the day we get limited to how much we can use internet wise is the day I die. I will fight it. Its not right to limit it. Its just another form of control and ask people in Austrailia how well it goes over. They are miserable.

Also we should all get together and really bring the network to a crawl legally. Create a site that host a legal 200GB torrent file and we get everyone in the states to download and seed it at the same time. I am pretty sure that would get the attention of every ISP and the government to step in and demand that the ISP's spend the money they have been hording to expand and upgrade their system! Then if/when the ISP's try and say we have gone past our allotted monthly limit, EVERYONE cancels their accounts with current ISP's and switch to another available ISP and start all over again. We are the ones that should be in control and we are not...

How bout they actually advertise what they could just provide? Instead of bloating it to "20mbps for only 39.99", and state the actual speed they could sustain for all users.

[citation][nom]sKiT75[/nom]I'll do ya one better. Start charging... ohh say a penny per email sent. Lets clear the nets of spam first. Keep your hands off my porn please![/citation]

That's actually not a bad idea! First 500 emails sent free (more for businesses).

You should patent that. If you do patent it though, don't get all sue-happy. We don't need more TH articles about another patent lawsuit.
