VHS Playing by itself

Can I play a VHS tape alone without recording? If so what do I need to do? I have a Toshiba DVR620KU and I can view a VHS if recording and I would like to watch a VHS by itself.

You can play a VHS tape. If there is no recording on it, you'll obviously see nothing.

What you need to do? You need working VCR. You can still get one these days for like $150.

You can use that Toshiba for playback only.
Connect the video and audio outputs to your TV input..
Put the tape in and press play.
