Video Editing Software Issues

I have tried several different video editing programs for recordings, but none of them are working and all of them give a similal error message, which is that the video type is unsupported or the required codecs are not found. I have tried Camtasia Studio 8, Sony Vegas Pro 11, and Windows Movie Maker 2.6. I have tried recording with both Fraps and Bandicam, however both result in the same error message when I try and import the video.
I am using windows 8 and everything did work properly back in windows 7.
I have tried reinstalling all software that I have tried including Fraps and Bandicam, however it did not work. Any insight into this issue and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated!

Solution
If these programs use the internal codecs in Windows, then I suggest installing k-lite codec pack. If gives you all the necessary codecs to edit files in Movie Maker and view them in Media Player.

You sir, are a god.
I guess the Windows 8 install must have broken the default codecs that this got to work, thank you so much for your help!
