Volume stuck at 100%

On new Dell Inspiron 700 laptop, Volume Control is displayed in top left corner of screen and won't go away. Volume is stuck at 100%. If I lower the volume, it automatically goes back to 100%. It is as if the volume-up buttom is stuck on.

Try uninstalling the audio driver, then download and reinstall the audio driver from the following link.

This problem reoccurred for me after a recent Dell Update on my relatively new XPS13 running windows 10. After uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, the problem persisted. So I right clicked the sound icon (on the lower bar) and selected 'Troubleshoot Sound Problems'. It walked me through several steps, changed some settings, and in true Microsoft fashion, requested a restart. After that the volume started working again.
