Walmart receiver

Our local walmart has added a $200 OTA receiver to their shelves.

I downloaded the message headers from the (somewhat limited)
newsserver, and scanned for walmart. Finding no discussions, I hope
not to offend any regular posters to this forum by asking:

Any comments on that unit?
Works OK for the money?
Better one coming?

Specifically I live a ways away from the transmitters While my
Toshiba Directv/OTA hdtv receiver does OK, sometimes the signal is on
the hairy edge and a receiver with a poor front end or poor
performance radio-wise (not necessarily video wise) may not hack it.

I appreciate any comments, or if anyonee has seen a review of the unit
that I might be pointed to, that information also.

THANKS

Look for threads talking about USDTV

this tuner is not just for OTA ATSC but also for a paid "over the air cable"
system called USDTV that uses the secondary digital streams of a number of
local stations to cobble together a dozen or so channels of SD.

Also, it is only for digital, not analog signals.

Actually if you don't live in Salt Lake City, Albuquerque or Las Vegas
and buy this USDTV at WalMart it is just an 8-VSB OTA receiver. It is
not set up for the USDTV service and does not have conditional access.

OK, thanks for the feedback.

You said a "much better" one is coming.

From the same company? Should I continue to look at the ones
they have on display, or are you talking about a different brand name
I should watch for?

Thanks again.

Oh, great. I guess I can still use the tv's internal, but makes it
much slicker to just step through those OTA available without jumping
around on the inputs.

This little part wasn't real obvious.

Thanksl

From the same company with the same name. I imagine they will do a good
job of identifying it as a 5th gen receiver.

Hisense on the back and USDTV on the front. LG will have a model in the
1st quarter.

the much better one may only be much better from a USDTV perspective with
DVR and software codecs.

Not that it's a big deal. Usually whatever they show on their analog
channels they show on their digital channels (whether HD or SD), with no
snow or other interference. And some networks have additional channels.
Although, if you do not have enough antenna, you might be able to receive
some (grainy) analog channels that you cannot pick up as digital.
