I'm glad to see this message making the rounds through the Tech sites. I'm sick and tired of the carriers messing with my phone, I just want them for their towers. I couldn't care less what they want to offer in any other way.

Verizon, butt out. I'll pick what I want, you just give me my 4G.

Google, make sure I always have a way to get around the carriers and I'm much more likely to keep buying your phones. Security issues and fragmentation are one of the only things that will drive me to Apple (and I will be weeping the whole way, but I will go).

Note that after our original report, Verizon has said that people who buy the Pixel through them will get Android updates at the same time as people who get the Pixel directly from Google. We're updating the story to reflect that.

The Verizon version of the Pixel will include three apps that you can uninstall, though.
