Welcome to rec.photo.digital.point+shoot!

I am posting this first message to the group as a test. The charter is
below. Enjoy.

CHARTER: rec.photo.digital.point+shoot

This newsgroup, rec.photo.digital.point+shoot, is an open forum for the
discussion of point-and-shoot digital cameras, and using those cameras.

Additional On-Topic Discussion:

- Any relevant accessories for point-and-shoot digital cameras, such as:
add-on lens elements, memory cards, microdrives, camera bags/cases, and
camera maintenance. - Photography techniques, as long as the discussion
remains within the context of point-and-shoot digital photography
- Image post-processing, as long as the discussion remains within the
context of point-and-shoot digital photography
- Posting links to personal photo galleries or images, as long as the
discussion remains within the context of point-and-shoot digital
photography

What Is Considered Off-Topic:

- Discussion of digital SLR, ZLR, rangefinder, or other digital cameras
with manual controls
- Discussion of any film cameras
- Discussion of scanners
- Discussion of printers
- Posting links to personal photo galleries or images, not in the
context of point-and-shoot digital photography

Posting off-topic should be kept to a minimum. All off-topic posts
should be prefixed with [OT] or another easily-identifiable prefix in
the subject line. If a segment of any on topic thread ever becomes
clearly off-topic, it is the duty of those individuals posting to change
the subject line to reflect the off-topic change.

Debating the pros and cons of digital photography vs. film photography
is off-topic. Please be polite and try to not steer any conversations in
that direction. In the event that any segment of any on-topic thread
ever becomes clearly off-topic by debating the pros and cons of digital
photography vs. film photography, it is the duty of those individuals
posting to change the subject line to reflect the off-topic change.

What Is Considered Inappropriate:

- Crossposting to any other newsgroup except where the post is of direct
relevance to each group in the crosspost

What Is Not Permitted:

- Posts from mail2news gateways and/or anonymous remailers
- Flame wars (comparisons between different digital camera brands or
models are permitted as long as they do not degenerate into personal
flames) - Signatures with more than 4 lines
- Exchange and/or discussion of illegal software
- Personal attacks
- Binary postings (i.e. non text postings) other than PGP and small
binary signatures
- Commercial advertisements:

This newsgroup explicitly prohibits the posting of advertisements of any
kind, whether personal, private or commercial, as well as all other
promotional material, whether or not it is in any way related to
photography.

Auction announcements (Ebay.com and others) are prohibited.

Posting links to commercial websites with the sole intention of
promoting those sites is not permitted; links to commercial websites may
be posted in the context of answering a specific question.

All postings made to this group should conform to existing Usenet
guidelines (see news.announce.newusers for guideline documents).

When posting on rec.photo.digital.point+shoot, please use standard
Usenet netiquette. Treat other posters with courtesy and follow standard
conventions when replying to posts. Please trim the posts you reply to,
retaining only the significant portions in your follow up. Preserve
attributions (the bits that specify who wrote what in each post) and
limit your signature to 4 lines or less. To ensure readability, do not
use HTML in your posts and limit your line lengths to the Usenet
standard of 80 characters or less.

END CHARTER.

This group popped up on my server a few minutes ago ans by chance I wanted
to see if it would be filled with the same jerks from other groups but
instead I notice a whole left wing this time.

If I post a link I'll make sure I mark the pictures that were taken with
PnS. <grin>

Hmmmm the OLY E10 and E20 can be used point and shoot.

Like the comparison of digital vs film is not going to happen here?

NO? So nobody here preps and then prints their shots? and discusses what
results they got with what paper and ink? Yeah OK

I shot the eclipse tonight with my E20 in full auto on a tripod so I guess
that made it point and shoot.

Yes this should make for a wonderful melding of threads. <grin>

Are you kidding? this debate has been going on for years now. Imagine
shooting a wedding in digital and not having a film backup.

Well the above contradicts your previuos statement.

Wrong. Some people maybe posting from their job and need to stay anonymous .

And it has been debated time and time again that a user can have a link in
their sig such as www.kodak.com and it not be advertising.

> - Exchange and/or discussion of illegal software

I doubt this will happen. I don't see point and shoot users discussing the
finer points of using top of the line Adobe and plugins.
Let's face it PnS has it's limitations.

Yeah this will go over well. I'm sure people will adhere to it too. LIke
when the 1st spammer crosspost here.

This I agree with. why don't you write Ebay and see if you can get them to
pull accounts of people who post stuff for sale on Ebay. Hmmmm commission
vs. you? Tough decision on Ebay's part.

This should prove fun to watch.

Is there ONE Usenet group where this actually happens? Let me point you to
News:microsoft.public.netiquette and you can see how few people care or
abide.

That's not how it goes. Charter debates and decisions are to be made
before, not after the creation of a newsgroup. That is during the
official discussion period. That phase has come and gone. For more,
please see e.g.

How does one create a new Usenet newsgroup?
http://www.uwasa.fi/~ts/http/createng.html

If you wish to ask more about the generic charter process:
news:news.announce.newusers Explanatory postings for new users.
is a good place (also for older hands despite its name).

All the best, Timo

Dear Bill,

Excellent. Thank you.

I am not quite sure what steps one (best in this case that is you)
will have to take to make the new newsgroups apprear at Google.
Especially, it would be important to have your charter posting
stored there. At the moment when I write this message e.g.:

"Google: Message id or article number
Xns958FADFDD831Abswr607h4@130.133.1.4 not found."

However the following, most crucial ones are available at Google
http://www.google.com/groups?selm=1097520794.25712@isc.org
http://www.google.com/groups?selm=1098950701.25532@news.netagw.com

All the best, Timo

Thanks, Timo! Google will be picking up the new groups within the next week
or two. They automatically pick up all Big-8 groups, but it takes a little
time, unlike alt.* groups which need to be requested. Google Groups will
probably catch all of the articles retroactively, including my first posts
with the charters to each group. If not, someone could post the charter
again. Enjoy.
