Question what are general steps to update Toshiba laptop bios ?

i have a toshiba satellite M45-S265 circa 2005
i want to make sure i have the latest bios. setup shows ACPI Bios ver= 1.6
how do i confirm that and where is a reliable location to get the latest available bios?
my current bios doesnt show usb as a bootable option... so i assume i have to put the bios on a cd or dvd?

thank for the quick reply . I looked at that site and it seems my bios version 1.6 is 'good enough' in that the notes for the newer versions dont seem to add an option to boot from the usb drive. the whole reason im doing all this is because I want to switch my machine over to mint linux
