I'm clueless when it comes to specs, I just need to know what to look for when choosing what to buy so please tell me what the minimum specs I should be looking for are (and suggestions if you know any good laptops)!

What I'm looking for is pretty simple, I just need something that fits these few points
-Laptop (no desktop)
-Used for offline gaming (skyrim, borderlands, bioshock, deadspace etc)
-Not looking to spend a fortune

What minimum will I need to run these games (and similar games) decently?
- Processor
- Graphics processor
- Ram
- Best / most reliable brand for gaming (HP, Acer, Asus, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo or Samsung?)
- Any other important specs I've forgotten

I'm looking to replace a pretty crappy very old toshiba which was around 1000 when bought new years ago, but am only looking to spend around the 500 to 700 mark, is this achievable or am i dreaming?

Not too much jargon please, simple answers and explanations much appreciated :)

These will run the games you mentioned (although not at ultra, the 820m will mostly run them at low and the 840m at med/high) even if we're talking about bioshock infinite, borderlands 2, skyrim (there's only one skyrim which is the 4th or 5th game of the elder scroll series) and dead space 3.

Sorry about not being specific enough, the ones you mentioned (bioshock infinite, borderlands 2 and dead space 3) are the games I was talking about. Thank you! :)

You're right but that'd cost OP 850$ which is 250$ over his budget

an 840m should play those games at high except for skyrim and bioshock infinite (med with some things at high)

Anyway, here's a good 850m system http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/NX.MMCAA.004

Find an array of laptops that will work and then buy one on Cyber Monday or Black Friday. You will get more bang for your buck that way.
