what causes a projection tv to bow on all 4 sides of the picture

The TV will play what I 'm watching but each side boes in the middle toward the center of the TV.

sounds like pincushion distortion. or perhaps top and bottom hook. you need to go into your tv settings and adjust the values

you should have some sort of adjustments you can make in your menu

The pincushion adjustment on your set may require access to the service menu. If it is on one of the user menus it will be where the convergence adjustments are located. You can do a search for the service manual which will tell you how to access the service menu.
