What is a Drive Partition

What is a drive partition I have an asus laptop i can't restore to default settings because i don't have a drive partition what does that mean

Simple explanation is a drive partition is a section of the hard drive that is treated by the computer as a separate drive, in this case it would mean that either you need a blank section of the disk to revert to or to revert from (dont know which without more details and googling sorry)
