I am currently using Avast with Malwarebytes on top (both free editions cuz im broke) but i recently saw a post that ccleaner, who was obtained by Avast a while ago, was found to have malware in the software and now i am worried that Avast has been compromised.
I searched up 'best free antivirus' and Total AV and pcprotect seemed to be at the top of most lists, so my question is: Avast Free or Total AV Free AntiVirus?? Or another?

Hi mustafa -- Avast was not compromised in any way by this incident!

This was related only to specific 32-bit versions of CCleaner -- no other Avast or Piriform products were affected or related -- and the threat was neutralized before any harm came to CCleaner users. We are committed to protecting our users and have a complete breakdown of the course of events and the steps that were taken:

https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/

Avast Free AntiVirus 17.4 scored 5.0 / 5.0 on detection in last test (June) w/ Win 10
Protection against 0-day malware attacks, inclusive of web and e-mail threats (Real-World Testing) = 100%
Detection of widespread and prevalent malware discovered in the last 4 weeks (the AV-TEST reference set) = 99.9%

The frankly w/ paid apps getting 100% 3 tests in a row at as low as $3 - $10 per seat.... we recommend making the investment
