I am looking for a free backup program with the ff. features:

- a scheduled full backup of the Win 7/8.1 system to an external HD followed by incremental daily backups;

- auto-maintenance: before the external HD becomes full or if the backup set reaches a certain size, the program will erase the full backup and increments, then make a new full backup followed by incremental daily backups;

- can do the same for file/directory backups;

- can restore the system using a rescue disk and the backup set.

Thank you for your help.

Thanks, marksavio. It's needed for several machines in a home, and the family has already spent a lot of money on the OS and other apps, so they are wary of having to spend on the backup system too when the built-in one should work fine (it stops when the backup HD becomes full). I tried Easeus, but it has settings for limiting the backup in terms of days or number. I was hoping to limit based on size.

I'll try the open source programs.

Macrium Reflect Free can do all that, with one small difference.
Instead of daily Incrementals, you get daily Differential with the free version. The paid version adds Incremental functionality.
