What is the best free Remote Desktop Application?

So I am going to college soon but I want to be able to log into my desktop at home. I don't have a lot of money so I was wondering what the best remote desktop application is (in your opinion) and why. Thanks!

I have tried every thing out there , except remote desktop for windows because it costs money, they all have huge flaws i can't find solutions for.
-I am running gigabit lan and 150 megabit(tablet)
So internet cant possibly be an issue, because the problems persists through gigabit and 150 at the same rate.
If you can solve the issue for any one of them please do.

I am trying to stream video and input commands for my game design, so i can do my work on the may computer while its in use.

I am using ‘Remote Desktop Connection’ application of Microsoft without any problem. It connects two computers over a network or internet. You will fill like sitting in front of your home computer in college, and have access to all your files & folders.
