Looking for a Laptop for under $500. Will be used for gaming, movies and music. Was considering a Lenovo IdeaPad Z50-70, HP 15-g080nr or HP Pavilion g7-2238nr. Please Help!

In Australia I got a laptop with quad core i7 4700MQ, Nvidia 740m, 8GB of RAM and disc drive for $600 Australian nearly a year and a half ago. For gaming I wouldn't go anything less than an i7 with 740m or 840m and 8GB of RAM.

For AMD I would want one of the best A8s or an A10 laptop at that price with R7 or at least m8670 graphics.

So the Lenovo is by far the best option if you can afford the parts I recommend. The other two are a bit too weak for gaming.

At that price point nothing really would be too good for gaming add $100 and get a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314535&cm_re=840m-_-34-314-535-_-Product 840m+i5 is very sufficient for low-end or entry level use (you could also for $40 more get a 1080p resoloution and faster CPU) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314807&cm_re=840m-_-34-314-807-_-Product. As Justin says, the AMD series wont be able to game untill you go up to an A8 or A10 APU on the laptop. The Lenovo Ideapad again for gaming isn't the best laptop having only intergrated graphics you'll probably struggle to play games which are less demanding.

As to justin, at the low end of entry level "gaming" laptops the processor will not be a bottleneck and the difference in performance will come from the GPU for example I'd rather have an i5 + 860m than a i7+840m.

You could also look at custom clevo based notebooks too however it might be hard to find one in the $500 price point.

I love my quad cores in a laptop haha but not everyone needs it. The graphics card would make a bigger difference though.
An i5 with 850m would be better than an i7 with 840m at the same price.
