I have been looking around for THE headset that I am fit for for several hours now and I cannot make a choice! I am going to be using these for mostly FPS. I have come up with 4 different headsets that I believe one of them should go home for years of use. My budget is $100 for the headsets. Here are the 4 and why I picked them (in the order of my favorite to least favorite):
1. Plantronics GameCom 780 (http/www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0TH-000...)
Reason: I picked this one first for a major, major reason and that is the 7.1 Dolby Digital, however, is it worth it over the other 3 for that reason?
2. RAZER Carcharias (http/www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...)
Reason: These seem to be the best considering that it doesn't have the 7.1 Dolby Digital. Not only do they go along with my keyboard and mouse but they have great sound and microphone quality not to mention the nice open design without the plastic wrap to trap the sound in.
3. SteelSeries Siberia V2 (http/www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...)
Reason: These headphones have among the most positive reviews on the market however I don't think they are better than the upper 2 considering their features. Still one of my top 4 of course! It is a great headset, I'm just comparing it to the other 2.
4. SteelSeries 61001SS (http/www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...)
Reason: Have a great reputation, used for professional gaming although it has a very similar case as the Siberia V2 headphones. Also, I wonder why it costs nearly double as the V2. Perhaps it's a gimmick?
There are my top 4 but I cannot decide between them. I would put Razer in the top if the GameCon didn't have the Dolby Digital in it which I think is a deal breaker for me. I want to hear your thoughts, is the GameCon really worth it over the Razer? Quality (both sound and build) also plays a major role in this. Don't forget the other 2 though! Maybe I'm missing something I haven't really looked at! Just keep my preferences in mind.
I was going to add the G35 but after looking at it, I realized I know I'm not going to use the programmable keys. Also, because of them I think that's why it's so expensive! Nearly double of most of the headsets! I didn't include it in this list because I find most of its features useless and overpriced because of them.
I know what the majority of commentators will do, suggest what they themselves bought. Please don't do that!!! You probably have different preferences from me and on top of that, I probably am not going to consider it because I've done enough research.
Thank you for reading this whole thing and I will be really thankful for your thought on this.
