What is the best laptop choice for a frequent traveling gamer?

There are two laptops i have in mind and my budget is around 1,500 dollars i was thinking either getting the MSI GT60 2OC-022US or a Sager NP8250 but i don't know which one is better overall price/performance value.

I can't say which brand is better, but I will at least provide you with some information. MSI is kinda like a new player in the retail laptop marketplace; similar to Asus. Meaning they didn't start selling laptops under their brandname until somewhat recently. Like maybe 5 years ago? Or something like take. In fact MSI Asus have been ODMs (Original Design Manufacturers) for quite some time. They designed laptops for other brandname long before they started to sell laptops under their own name.

Sager has been selling laptops for a long time. I am pretty sure I heard of them back in the 90's somehow. Maybe I came across an old review of one of their laptops. Sager only sells laptops, they are not a ODM unlike Asus and MSI. Sager mainly use laptops designed by Clevo which is a well respected laptop ODM in their own right. The two basic complaints about Clevo laptop designs that I've read over and over again are:

1. They look bland. Yeah, I guess if you want more curves on your laptop then you should stay away from them.

2. Their laptops feel "plasticky", but they are generally well built. Well, yeah their laptop shells are likely made with high impact plastic. If you're looking for an aluminium shell, then look elsewhere.

Many people seem to praise most of Clevo's ODM laptops because they are well designed and modular.


Soooo.............. which one to choose?

Both have similar base price. For whatever reason, XoticPC is charging less money for CPU upgrades on the Sager compared to MSI. For example, upgrading to the i7-4800MQ will cost you $185 for Sager, but $245 for MSI. Due to Clevo's modular design, you can opt for a more powerful graphics card than the GTX 770m. MSI only offers the GTX 770m. MSI offers 3 LCD screen options, while Sager only have 2 options. As for the outward appearance... Sager's laptop looks like almost any other "generic" laptop. But MSI's laptop has angles.

If it were my choice, I would go with Sager because I prefer it's "bland" look to MSI's angular look. Plus, the Sager has more upgrade options.

Can anyone who owns the lenovo y500 and dolphin tell me the fps for paper mario and super mario galaxy on the computer, I have been dying for this information

I´m in the same position. I travel frequently internationaly and need some kind of PC that came game well. Naturally I´d much rather build a desktop, but I need the portability. Anyways, I´ve been investigating alot over the past 4 months or so and I´ve pretty much narrowed my search down to the sager np8230 and the np7370. Most likely going to go with the np8230 due to the better GPU (770M vs 765). Also, that np8250 you listed is $100 more than the np8230, simply because it has a bigger PSU and therefore upgradable to say the GTX 780m somewhere down the road. However laptop upgrades are expensive, expect to pay at least some $400 just for the GPU down the road, that will already be quite a bit outdated by that time (ie. 2 years or so). So is it really worth paying another $100 plus for that?

I my self am actually leaning towards the MSI that because the Sager is a bit too bland and i am still in grade school so i would need a little aesthetic just for show. Over that, Xoticpc has a free 16gb ram upgrade for summer.

Xoticpc has 50$ off if you spend over $1350 dollers on all sager models. I guess that could help you in your decision.

I´d prefer to get the IC diamond thermal compound, an OS and an SSD than take the $50 discount rather than shove out another $100 for the np8250. I don´t really plan on upgrading the laptop GPU wise....it´s just not worth it in my opinion. Hopefully I´ll have a laptop in two years or so.

Just go ahead and get the sager np8230 since you are not going to upgrade the gpu. Its a nice PC one of my friends has one and plays daily its never failed on him even though he dropped it.
