Great idea asking other people for help before getting malware/virus.
Rule of thumb: If you dont know the @address delete it. If you didnt expect an email from a new person/whatever delete it.
you can also always google the address to see if anyone else know it etc.

could be just a phishing email. the from address can be fake.
