What is wlan on my phone and how do i connect it in jamaica

when im in the bahamas i have wifi so why cant i get it in jamaica ,if i can how do i go about getting it?

Wifi or WiMax? If it is wifi, you should be able to connect just fine, so long as there is a wireless router around.
