What OS functions best with new laptops?

Hello, let's say I have an Acer i5, which OS works best? I've been thinking about getting Windows 7 or Windows 7 Home Premium and I have been browsing sites like Designer Tech Software and Tek-Micro...

They do say the perks of those programs, but which OS functions best for an i5?

I'm also thinking about installing Office 2011 Home and Business.

People can knock it all day long if they want, but Windows 8.1 is a great system. It does give better performance than Windows 7 as well.

The dislikes with Windows 8 have largely been dealt with in the release of Windows 8.1. I run 8.1 myself and actually love it. For me, 8.1 would be the only option to consider.
