I own a Canon 7D which I bought with two kit lens - EF-S 18 - 135mm 3-5- 5.6 IS and EF 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 IS USM. I want to invest in a macro lens but even after reading many reviews, I am confused, I was drawn to the canon 100mm f2.8L IS Macro..but many reviews seem to suggest that there are third party lens that offer the same (Or More) for less than the canon. I am confused!!!! Any further convincing suggestions??

there are none that have image stabilization....not that useful for macro anyway. Look at the sigma 70mm f2.8 and tamron 90 mm

Many thanks for your suggestions. I will check the reviews on the sigma and the tamron you suggested. I think that Image Stabilization is important for the macro work I would like to experiment with.

Thanks. I have recently experimented with a Sigma (borrowed from a friend who highly recommends it as value for money) with encouraging results.
