I just got a HP 15t with the following specs:

Windows 10 Home 64 Plus
Intel® Core™ i7-8550U (1.8 GHz, up to 4 GHz, 8 MB cache, 4 cores) Intel® UHD Graphics 620
12 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 4 GB, 1 x 8 GB)
15.6" diagonal HD SVA BrightView WLED-backlit (1366 x 768)
HDD 2TB 5400RPM SATA
No Optane
Office Software Trial
Security Software Trial
3-cell, 41 Wh Lithium-ion prismatic Battery
No DVD or CD Drive
Standard Keyboard (jet black)
HP Webcam with Digital Microphone (Jet Black)
802.11b/g/n (1x1) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 4.2 combo

What kind of performance will this give me? I am very new to the computer- laptop scene and I don't know much.

You can't just ask what kind of performance, it is all relative to what you are using it for. For non-gaming things, it will be great. Without a video card in it past the Intel stuff, it can run older games decently, stuff like Half Life 2, Diablo 3 should be good also. The screen resolution is pretty bad for the rest of the specs, as well as the slow hard drive. Having mis-matched RAM sticks will hurt performance a bit.

Needed to have asked about the system before buying, not after.

It's a good general use system, but likely too much CPU, screen is not very good quality and a slow hard drive. Not a system most people would get, it's like a car with a strong engine but cheap tires and bad seats.
