When to change?

My current laptop is dying... like literally. It automatically shuts down every now and then even when the temperature is ok. So, my question is "Should I just get a new laptop now (standard for today would be Windows 8.1 and 4th gen Intel processors) or wait it out till the launch of Windows 9 (expected next month but won't be available for consumers that soon) and 5th gen Intel processors (expected end of this year)? Thanks

Umm usually education (engineering), videos, average gaming, lots of surfing Internet

Buy now then. You won't see substantial benefit by waiting. If you're using cad or simulation type software I recommend an i7 though.
