the 2 have same specifications except vga and display

If they have the same processor and memory, it's probably more up to you if you want a 14 or 15.6"

You should go with the Y500. It has a larger screen and ways a bit more. It also though has a drive bay so if you ever want to SLI your graphics cards you will have the option

Sorry I meant to say Ultrabay. It is an option that lets you choose an extra fan,gpu,hard drive, or optical drive.
