I am currently searching for a new laptop. I will use it mostly for programming (Java, C, CSS) and for general use like browsing with multiple tabs opened and movies. No gaming will be done on it.
I would like the battery to last around 4h or more.
Linux OS will be installed on it.

At the moment I am deciding between the two Asus laptops:

ASUS X550CC (400€)
Intel i3-3217U 1.80 GHz
RAM 6GB
NVIDIA GeForce GT 720M 2GB

ASUS K56CB (560€)
Intel i5-3337U 1.80 GHz
RAM 8GB
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2GB

I would like to ask for your advice as I am not sure if the i5 it's worth the money for my needs. I am also open to suggestions if you have a laptop that would be better for me.

The CPUs are identical in specs (however on Intels specifications only the i5 has turbo boost which will raise it to 2.7Ghz).

Here are others that are at the price of the second option:

The i3 and i5 are both 2 Cores with 4 Threads, so it should be pretty comparable power.

I would assume that the higher resolution screen is a very important point here, you want to be able to scrunch as many lines of code as possible onscreen.

i think both laptops are really good for your needs, though :) I would go for the cheaper of the two
