Which Laptop is better for gaming? 1366x768 or 1920x1080?

I have two identical laptops lined up, the only difference is the 1366x768 or 1920x1080 resolution.

I understand that there's a large difference in quality on a 1080p laptop, believe me - it's a selling point. I'll be using this laptop for school (university) and gaming. I figure if I buy a laptop, it might as well allow me to game on the go. No suggestions for desktops, please!

Here's the caveat: Since they both have the same graphics card, which would be best for gaming? I consider games "playable" at 30+ FPS on high-ish settings (I turn shadows down, who needs high shadows?). Here are my main questions:

1) Is the 1920x1080 THAT much better than the 720p counterpart?

2) Won't playing games on the 1080p resolution create a significant FPS drop?

3) Would the increased resolution make up for lower settings? (ex: medium on 1080p, high-ultra on 720p)

4) If I had a 1080p laptop (the second one, the 54L9 model) and lowered a game's resolution to 1366x768, would it look similar and run similar to me playing a 1366x768 game on a 1366x738 native-resolution laptop (the first one, the 54S6 model)?

GAMES TO CONSIDER: *WoW: Warlords of Draenor (40-50+ FPS is a must on high-ultra)*, Diablo 3, Bioshock Inifinite, The Witcher, Neverwinter, DayZ standalone, Borderlands 2, etc.

Without mentioning which games you want to play it's not really possible to make a recommendation.

Though I would for 60 dollar go for the 1080p one as even if you play a very demanding game you can always turn resolution down, but never up you know. And for watching movies, youtube it's nice to have 1080p imho.

Take a look at reviews that benchmark games like this one http/www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-840M.105681.0.html and look for the games you play and the frame-rates you find acceptable and make your decision.
(EDIT: also note the settings used as you might not want or need such settings but they do give you a general idea)

I prefer laptops with 1920x1080 because that allows me to see a lot of things on the screen at once. Particularly useful to compare documents side by side for cross referencing or when working with large spreadsheets.

However, the GT 840m is not powerful enough to play games at 1920x1080 resolution so when playing games I would drop the resolution to 1366x768 for better performance. The difference in performance between those two resolution can be like playable on lower resolution to slideshow on higher resolution. That depends on the game, but the GT 840m is only considered a mainstream graphics chip so don't expect decent performance in games that are moderately intensive.

When playing games at 1366x768 resolution stretched to fill a 1920x1080 resolution screen, the graphics and text will not look as sharp compared seeing it on a screen that is actually 1366x768, but the difference is not that much. To me a 1920x1080 resolution screen is much more important for doing things outside of playing games.
