Which laptop is better?

I need a laptop for school soon that also can pack a punch.
Since I use a 144hz monitor in my setup at home, I really can't go back to a 60hz display, even on a laptop. Both of these laptops have a 120hz display.

This one has a 7700HQ with a 256GB NVMe SSD (and it looks better)

(I contacted MSI if this laptop has a 120hz display and it indeed has one.)

Is the larger and faster SSD worth it over the new hexacore processor?

If we assume that your daily schedule will be 75 % school and 25 % gaming then I'd say go for the 15.6" version with the 8th-gen CPU. If it's going to be more like 50-50 school and gaming, then get the larger screen and the more gaming-oriented 7th-gen CPU.

I seriously doubt you'll be able to register any difference in data transfer speeds between SATA and NVMe - I know the latter is faster but for school work I just can't see when you'll be needing this level of transfer speeds. The 8th-gen CPU, however, is likely to make a much bigger difference.
