Which motherboard/processor or what?

Hello!

Last year I bought a Nvidia GTX1060 and replaced my old 650 with it. I felt like it is time to upgrade my processor now and one of my friends said I should probably upgrade the motherboard too while I am still working in the computer. I know a little about processors but doesn't know which one to get. I know absolutely nothing about motherboards and would love to learn. I want to buy new RAM as well, I don't feel like I have that much right now. I am mainly going to use my computer for gaming and doing video editing and animation. I would be very happy if someone were to help me or direct me to a good page to learn more.

Well you need to post your budget, and your current system basically though if you upgrade your CPU you will probably need to upgrade your motherboard and memory.

I assume your PC is a good bit old if you are replacing a Gtx 650, so if you are going to replace the CPU chances are you will have to replace the CPU, RAM and motherboard at the same time, this is because newer CPUs fit in sockets specifically for that CPU which mean it will have to be a new board. I would go with a higher end i3 or a i5 by Intel, to give the gpu room to work. New boards pretty much all run on ddr4 memory by the way. Check out pc part picker (https/pcpartpicker.com/list/) this will let you pick CPUs, motherboard and RAM and will filter out non compatible parts or warn you if there might be a issue.

CPU: Intel core i5 - 4440k 3.1GHz
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1060 Dual 6GB
RAM: 12 GB DDR3
PSU: ATX Corsair 450 W
1TB internal space
Windows 10

Is there something I have missed? (except for the motherboard)

My budget is around:
Motherboard: ~$230
RAM: ~$230
CPU: ~$340

(I also realize I might need to upgrade my PSU aswell.)
Do you think the budget will do?
