Which of these laptops for gaming?

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a new laptop for the best gaming I can get for $800. I've narrowed it down to these two, both $799.99:

Both have quad-core i7s and independent graphics. The Lenovo is only 14" though while the asus is 15.6" and has .1GHz faster processing, but the Lenovo has newer graphics and seems to be a better build quality. I think they seem pretty similar otherwise?

What do you guys think and why? Also if anybody has any suggestions for better laptops under $800, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!

Asus is actually the one that has a newer GPU, but the Lenovo's 755M will perform better than the 840M, all else being equal. As far as the processors are concerned, you can basically call them equal, the .1GHz difference is enough to give the faster processor a slight edge in synthetic benchmarks, but you'll likely never see a noticeable difference while playing games. The difference between the HM and HQ processors is next to nothing, the HQ's get a boost due to better integrated graphics but you won't be using integrated to play games. I like both of these brands, but I would go with the Lenovo. I know the Asus has 1080p, but for a 14" 1600x900 should be ok. You wouldn't be able to play most games in 1080p with these cards anyway.

Definitely go with the Lenovo,it has much stronger GPU than the ASUS one.

Good points. My biggest hang up with the Lenovo is the 14" glossy versus the 15.6" (non-glossy?). I had considered I probably wouldn tbe gaming in 1080p anyway so it wasn't really necessary, but may still be nice for movies and videos.

How big of a difference is it in the graphics card? A noticeable performance difference?

Something else I was considering was dropping to a dual-core for better dedicated graphics to stay in budget, but is a dual core i7 or i5 going to knock me back more performance-wise than stronger graphics will?

Let's say you're using an i5 4200M and i7 4700MQ.
You're gonna see a significant difference between them.
Basically,i7 Mobile is better than i5 Mobile.

The 755M is significantly faster in some games (ie playable on 755M but not 840M), and it makes little difference in others, all depending on how demanding the game is. On the games that are less dependent on the GPU, they typically require a more powerful CPU, which would be a drawback if you went towards i5 dual core vs i7 quad core. I know the common misconception is you don't need quad core, but modern games are now optimized to make use of more cores than in the past, so it will definitely be an issue down the road if you don't have enough.
