Pff... I'm a sucker for new technology just like EVERYONE else here xD

I dual boot Windows 7 HP 64x, and Linux Ubuntu 11.04

I haven't really figured out what I would want out of Windows 8... I'd probably want more stability, and more compatibility, and I'm sure we'd all love for it to be faster... somehow...

I've read another article saying that MS W8 might support Xbox 360 Games, which would be great... but there is probably a catch...

I tried using the Kinect SDK on Win7 (Didn't even try connecting the kinect.. because I didn't buy the USB connector..) but it crashed, probably was't even worth it... from what I was seeing the buzz about it was some sort of stickman tracker xD

I hate the idea of Windows looking like a smartphone, Yes, change is good [in some cases]. But M$ is taking it to another level if that's what I'm going to be stuck with.

Reminds me of Windows Media Center.. blasted Media player...

I am going to keep my windows XP!
I also worked a little with Vista, but don't like it.
About Windows 7 I don't even want to hear about it! The same will go for the new Win 8! [:isamuelson:5] [:isamuelson:3]

You've never actually used 7, have you?

I agree with Herr_Koos, Windows 7 is currently the best... The security is much better then it was on XP and Vista, and 7 supports more then either...

Windows 7 ftw...

Mid-winter in RSA, so a bit on the chilly side, although we've had a few nice days. We don't really have severe cold here compared to most places in the world, but I still prefer summer.. :sol:

Oh, I'm sure many of us are still using XP. I for one still use it at work, my recently replaced laptop is still running XP media center edition. There's nothing wrong with XP per se, if it works for you now and you don't plan to have any new additions to your software/hardware then it's fine as it is. On the other hand if your XP machine is connected to the internet then it's getting more and more outdated every day, microsoft is patching it every so often to try to fix security issues and such, but they will stop by 2014 I hear, and then you'll be on your own.

But as I said if your system is very static in its operation, win XP is still a wonderful OS.

I've been learning win7 for about 2 months now, I've got to say it's confusing at first, because all the things you were used to find in XP in one place is now in completely different place in win7. But they did do a better job of linking certain things together better, so now you can access certain setting boxes from several places.

Well, that is the thing about technology that many people don't get. It is always changing. So, don't become super attached to an OS/Computer, once it outdated, you'll run into problem. Sure, we can still use 10 year old PCs running Windows 98 and the other ancients, and still be able to connect to the internet. But you are sacrificing TOO many features... speed, functionality, and stability.

I don't think people should upgrade just as soon as an OS is released, but they should be aware of what is going on, and why people are upgrading. Yes, Vista was a bad OS. It was a resource hog, it had issues in many of the Windows utilities, and security was a mess. Windows 7 brought back some Win XP principles but still changed a lot of what you are seeing, and functioning...
There are people on both sides, I have a friend who liked Vista better then the other OS, he would rather have Windows Vista pre-installed on his PC then Win 7 or XP.

In the end, it boils down to whether or not you care about speed and functionality, surely no one wants a slow computer, that is why it something you have to research and find out for yourself. But change is a factor that many people can't deal with, they get used to a certain way of doing things, and they are afraid to restart with a new version of Windows.
Many of us will be downloading the Windows 8 beta upon it's release. Many of us will be reluctant to do so, I'd say if you have a capable machine that you don't have to worry about if it crashes, then go ahead and try something new, you'll only know more.

I use Windows 7. I made sure that all the machines in the house were running Win 7 except for the netbook, and 2 old laptops...
Will I be upgrading to Windows 8?
It depends on what it has to offer, if MS cleans up the glitches in Win7 and adds more useful features, then quite possibly, if they change the layout, and just change the functionality of the interface- well then, I'd have to say no. I am a sucker for new technology- but only if it will be practical.
Thumbs up if you agree.

Sorry, I was away...
Anyways, I actually installed a Windows 7 on a friend's computer, because he wanted it. After install, it has a really annoying placement of every settings needed that pulled my hair out until I got all done like he wanted,(he's very particular) then he needed a lot of older stuff to install and had a lot of incompatibility issues, even in xp mode or just with win xp compatible set, only half of them worked.
I've been using his pc and sticking my nose into it for a few months now, cause he always wants and need something else, but I wouldn't want a win 7 on my computer!

Now that I think at it, it was a little like way back when going from 98 to XP, I remember puling a lot of hair out then too! :pt1cable: 😀 :hello:

My main OS is OSX Lion. Have a MacMini I bought in late 2006. Came with Tiger, upgraded to Leopard, Snow Leopard, and now Lion.
That's 4 OS upgrades on the same machine. That would be hard to accomplish on a PC.

In 2004 I wiped XP from my Laptop and went with Ubuntu. Never looked back. When it died a couple years ago, I bought a cheap Acer Aspire 5517 64bit with Win 7. It dual boots with Ubuntu.

Dual boot Ubuntu Ultimate 2.9x64 and XP Mce2005. Never tried Win7 yet but tried Vista and worst mistake :ouch:. Hopefully when I get a new PC next year Win7 is still available and not just windows 8 with it's secure boot monopoly :non: .

I dual boot Win7 Pro 64bit on it's own HDD and WinXP Pro 32bit on it's own HDD, completely power switch isolated from each other.

I keep WinXP simply for the things it can do, that operating systems like Vista and Win7 have curtailed.

like what.?

Was wondering the same thing...

By the way, I've got the Win 8 Dev platform running in a VM, in case anyone has questions about it.
