Which RAM module shall I choose for the upgrade?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a new HP laptop.

The product link is-

https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07DZLCBYJ/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza

The product page and the description state that the stock RAM is DDR4 2400.

Although, when I am checking the RAM using CPUZ the specifics are of DDR4 2666.

I wish to upgrade the laptop's RAM with an additional 8GB of RAM. I researched a lot for it and finally found a few RAMs with DDR4 2400 specification.

Although when I contacted the sellers they said that the RAM is DDR4 2666 in my laptop so I must find DDR4 2666 RAM.

I am totally confused now.

Please help me which RAM is in my laptop and how shall I make both the modules work as Dual Channel configuration.

I would really appreciate all the help.

Thanks.

it is a 2666 module, no doubt at all now. Here is the link to the exact part number as exposed by HWInfo (nice documentation of all the info by the way)

If the manufacturer says it's 2666 and CPU-Z reports the same, then get 2666. Using 2400 and 2666 will downclock the 2666 module so you won't notice much but for gaming, 1/2 FPS can make the difference between 50-ish and a stable 60.

Thanks for the quick help.

Actually, the condition here is the opposite.

The Product Listing and the description says the RAM is DDR4 2400 while, as I posted the pics, shows the RAM module is DDR4 2666.

Am I wrong in interpreting CPUZ? Or, is it really DDR4 2666 RAM module working on my laptop?

i would be trusting CPU-Z here. Manufacturers the size of HP will frequently get details like this wrong on the documentation or they'll use slightly different part for a batch because thats what they need to get used. Putting a DDR4-2666 in will not break the system. I would try to source a samsung stick to match the existing one (preferably with same timings) as that will minimize the potential for issues.

CPU-Z doesn't usually get PC specs wrong. Try HWInfo. If it matches buy a 2666 MHz stick with the same timings and preferable Samsung, like Shady42 said.

Thanks for the help.

As one of the replies here says that it might be possible that my Laptop's RAM is really 2400 but it is forced to work at 2666 and to check it in the BIOS settings.

I checked the BIOS but there was no option to overclock the RAM.

I need help on this issue as I am getting a very good offer for the intended RAM and SSD upgrade for my laptop.

I also asked a question on Amazon's product page and a reply says that my machine is built only to support DDR4 2400 RAM modules.

If it is so then why CPZ states otherwise. And if the RAM is overclocked currently to work at 2666 then how will I be able to bring it down to 2400 so that new 2400 module can work together with it.

It is all so confusing.

Please help out.

Thanks for the help.

I accept the RAM module is 2666 working at 2400 in my laptop.

However, can you help me with finding the right RAM? Can I straightaway go and buy a DDR4 8GB CL17 RAM from any company (Crucial to be specific) and it will work without any issues?

Or, which of these will be a perfect fit-

All this havoc is only because I am from India and here we do not get the desired hardware frequently. So, whatever is available we need to work with it!!

I really need robust help as I am not at all aware of these things.

I hope you will not mind guiding me.

Thanks.

The part you chose wont match the current RAM in your system.

You should find somewhere that sells this part number if possible

M471A1K43CB1-CTD

Failing that look for 8GB PC4-2666V-S (preferably samsung)
