I am not technically up to speed so please forgive me if I am asking for info that has been delivered before.

My question is simple:
I have an old anlogue TV that is still working. It has composite and S-video inputs.

I am wondering if there is a set-top box (like one from Roku, I believe) that will allow me to use the following function:
- I want to watch films that are freely available from a great online public library service. I already have Internet service, albeit at only about 5 Mb/s, delivered through a router provided by the ISP.

What interfaces and technical features should I be looking for on the set-top box? Is there a particular Roku box that you would recommend?

According to this link even the oldest Roku box would be adequate for my need.

Thanks very much in advance for any useful responses.

Looks like the Roku Express+ should do the trick [1]. It has composite output (Yellow, Red, White connectors). I don't know of any other streaming devices that have composite without an adapter. I have also used Roku devices in the past and have liked them.
In regards to wanting to watch "films that are freely available from a great online public library service," I'm not aware of services like this (besides Crackle maybe?), however if you are aware of one, great! The Roku mentioned will give you access to all the popular services such as Netflix, Amazon Video, Youtube, etc.

Hope I could help!

Many thanks for your response, RustyCarrot.

It confirms what I had suspected. After my initial post I revisited the Roku website and studied the various options: I came to the same conclusion that you did. I am sorry it does not have the S-video interface because my understanding is that gives better quality pictures.

Actually, at the moment I am torn between upgrading my TV, or not. It's an old Quasar (Panasonic) and it still gives good picture and sound. However, I do realise I am way behind the times: it doesn't for example have an HDMI interface. It seems that if I DO get a new digital TV the Roku device should still work with it.:)

For you information, the library service to which I referred was as contained at https://www.kanopystreaming.com/. I have not used it yet but it is very well reviewed.
