Better for what?

personally I prefer the Xperia SP, I got one three weeks ago - brilliant gadget.
Apple devices are way too expensive because they have no competition (if you want iOS).
Also, to back up an iPhone you have to use iTunes which can be a nightmare to use.
But to back up an Xperia you use Sony software which is a joy to use.

i wouldn't buy an iphone too because of it's price it's just i have a xperia sp and someone gave mr the iphone as a gift and i thought that in terms of futureproofing in mobile gaming the iphone 5s has a much better potantial

Gaming is not my thing on any device, but Apple will have a fight on it's hands against Android devices where games are concerned.
