why am i picking up canada channels instead of my local ones that arent that far away?

i hooked up a indoor antenna on tv. got more canada channels then my local one that arent so far away,

Antennas, even most indoor antennas, are directional. You may have the orientation wrong. Check www.antennaweb.org It will give you the appropriate compass direction to point your antenna.
