why can't i copy my photos from my iphone5 to the computer

i connected my iphone5 to my computer by using the USB cable. When I looked at My Computer, the iphone does not show up. Why is this? Anything I missed doing? Thank you.

Thats because iPhones are annoying like that.
And yes, i've got one. No i won't be changing.

I use 'iPhone explorer' for osx and you can pull photos straight off there.
