Not worth it. Eventually everybody will have 2 or 3 VR headsets with headphones for sound.I would imagine that the VR headsets will eventually have screens with no solid backing so that when you wanna reach for popcorn you just tap a button and the displays switch to 50% opacity.That way it doesn't matter where the hell you sit for optimal viewing/listening. Hell, you could lay back and relax on your Tempurpedic bought with former TV money

the main point is the UHD-1 and UHD-2 both should use and comply with the new Rec. 2020 real colour space that has better colour coverage due to using 10bits per pixel for "UHD-1" 3840×2160 consumer grade panels and later "UHD-2" 12bit grade panels for the 8192×4320 [8K] consumer in 4 years or so.

this UHD-1 and UHD-2 applies to all so called PR 4K/8K TV's and their panelsto put it simply, antiquated Rec. 709 (HDTV and below) 8bit pseudocolor color = only 256 bands of usable colour.Rec. 2020 real colour space 10bits per pixel= 1000+ bands of usable colour so you get far less banding in lower bit rate encodes/decodes and more compression for a given bit rate so a better higher visual quality at smaller size.i do wish all the tech coverage always asked the right questions as regards ALL these new panels..IS this panel UHD-1 Rec. 2020 real colour space compliant ? as in 10bit per pixel minimum, and not just the antiquated Rec. 709 (HDTV and below) 8bit pseudocolor color space panels.

This will be the first demonstration of an 8K Super Hi-Vision over-the-air broadcast outside Japan, according to the NAB Show organizers. Engineers from NHK are also set to present details of a long-distance, single-channel, over-the-air 8K test broadcast conducted recently in Japan. 8K is the next-generation standard set to come after we have become bored with 4K resolution, although both are a misnomer. An 8K image is 7680 pixels wide by 4320 pixels high (33.2 megapixels) and requires 16 times the number of pixels as the current 1080p HDTV. It is the generation after 4K, which is set at 3840 pixels wide by 2160 pixels high.

In order to transmit the 8K signal, whose raw data requirement is 16 times greater than an HDTV signal, it was necessary to deploy additional technologies These include ultra multi-level orthogonal frequency domain multiplex (OFDM) transmission and dual–polarized multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antennas. This was in addition to image data compression. The broadcast uses 4096-point QAM modulation and MPEG-4 AVC H.264 video coding.

Flagship broadcasting events such as the Olympic games or the soccer world cup often do much to stimulate switchover. Tokyo's successful bid to host the summer Olympic games in 2020 is seen as the event which may mark the beginning of the 8K era

"Finally, who says that you have to watch just one show on a 4K TV? With four times the resolution of HD, one screen can literally show four 1080p videos."No you couldn't. 4k is 3840x2160 so you could only have two 1080p videos on the screen at a time.
