why does my stereo sound better than tv

My tv plays through my stereo but when I play cd's they sound so much better. Why?

Sometimes the length of the cable can degrade the signal if it is too long, or picks up interference.

TV audio is not as good in sound quality as CD in general. Music programs usually sound better than regular TV shows but because they are usually live they use body mics. In a recording studio they don't have that limitation amongst many others.
