Why is my computer running windows security audit without my permissio

The other day I noticed that - although my laptop was in 'sleep' mode with the lid closed - it was running full blast, hard drive, lights flashing, etc. When I looked in the Event Viewer, it gave me an Event number which I looked up, and it said it was a 'Windows Security Audit'. What is this? and why does Microsoft think it's ok to access my computer without my permission? What does this do and how can I turn it off???? I have updates set to notify me but not download anything without my permission.

No matter how Microsoft defines this, it sounds like malware to me!

Are you sure it was actually a Microsoft program and not just some malware that is using the Windows name to sound more credible?

I second the guy above. Microsoft doesn't have anything that's called Windows Security Audit.
