Why is my laptop monitor going off?

Hello,
Randomly, my laptop's monitor will just go black - I can see a little bit of the screen but that's it. Sometimes it will come back on while other times, it won't come back at all.

I have a presario 2700.

I hope someone can help me!

Yes and it's set to never turn the monitor off and no timer on it either.
