Why Skype For Facebook Will Be a Dud

I completely agree, I'm not gonna go on facebook to use skype just because I could just use.....skype....

This is a silly article. I, and many of my friends, would LOVE the opportunity to Skype over facebook. It's in Google+, so facebook is really just playing catch up here...

the recently patented wiretapping technology Microsoft could sell to governments
I have a better idea, Microsoft wiretaps the US government and discloses their findings to the people under the freedom of information act.

There is an inherent problem with this technology though. Just because Microsoft patented it, do you think the Chinese\Korean\Russian software developers won't use the technology to "tap" into US communications?

I agree, I prefer the impersonal text message. I type faster than I talk and its much easier (and believable) to tell someone I lost connection or the computer crashed than having to make a poor impersonation of the static sound as you click the end button.

Skype on Facebook? One more security concern... first it was face recognition, and now voice recognition biometrics! Op-out on this one. 😛

Facebook's probly got good penetration into the senior citizen pool. If its substantially easier to use skype under facebook, it could be popular with large, extended families. Old people are the ones with all the money so who knows.

I agree that i much prefer text communication b/c I can say as little or as much as i want with the time to collect my thoughts and not put my foot in my mouth (which I do quite a bit).

[citation][nom]Villa Jidiot[/nom]So, Evan, why aren't you Skyping now? Too complicated?[/citation]
Exactly. Integrating Skype with facebook only solves one problem, having to ask your friend for their Skype ID. Seriously, you're such good friends with this person that you want to voice-chat with them, but you can't be bothered to ask them for their Skype ID (or Yahoo ID, or Google Talk ID, etc. etc.)? Sure, integrating Skype with your friends list sounds like a good idea, but the point of this article is, why would you want to voice-chat with these people, and if you do want to voice chat, why aren't you voice-chatting already?

Then again, knowing people these days, I'm pretty sure "Facebook" is the internet for many of them. If it's not on the Facebook website, it's not possible to do for them. I'm still convinced that soon enough, Facebook will have a feature that allows you to browse the web through Facebook. No, not a facebook app. Literally, their Facebook website will have a frame which will act like a web-browser within your web-browser. Mark my words, it will happen. The users are such sheep that they'll use it, just because it's on Facebook.

Thank you hellwig. I am updating facebook code as we speak. I'm sure glad I didn't have to pay you for the idea. Don't bother with a lawsuit, you know how that'll end up. Cheers 😀

You will put your Skype ID into your settings just once, then in Facebook there will an option to just "call" your friends using Skype as the method. You seriously think they are going to make it complicated? The future is one-click and they haven't disappointed so far.

Facebook is already too personal for me (which is why I don't have an active account), Skype would just make things worse. I am interested in checking out Google+ (or is it Google Circles?) though. If I'm satisfied with the level of privacy I'll give it a try.

I think a lot of people such as yourself have not used skype. Skype has a browser plugin that recognizes my friends names and phones numbers while i browse the web, with one click on the icon next to a name or number i call them. I guess for the techno-challenged aka people to lazy to install and use skype this may make sense.

hmmm calling thru facebook. lets all start up consulting services to solicitation and telemarketers so they can DESTROY facebook skype.
