I trust that they will use Blu-ray and support movie playback because it seems just plain dumb not to do so. Don't give a fig about "supposed 3D" a.k.a. stereoscopic movie playback as don't expect the kids to have a 3D TV anytime soon.

i think it will use custom drm nintendo disks for games but play blu ray movies also
this is a smart move as blu ray drive is prob very cheap to produce nowadays compared to ps3 launch days

that's wrong. they have been selling at no loss for quite a number of years. they only started making profit since '09

but still, it was the right thing to do, or else the ps3 would have gone the way of the dinosaur

As always Nintendo is late to the game... Blu-Ray is hardly the future. Media streaming is the future. Anyhow.... I am not impress at all by the new gaming console. They should have sold this 6 years ago...

They are not laughing for sure.... They are still paying off the debt that they incurred with the PS3. By the time they are free and clear, Blu-Ray will be the thing of the past.

Question is, will it actually PLAY Blu-Ray disks? One thing I don't like about the current Wii is that it won't play DVDs, so we need a separate DVD player. It does stream Netflix though, which is good for that 10% of movies actually available on streaming.

The internet infrastructure needs to dramatically improve around the world for streaming to become the future. Until that happens disc-based media will still be the primary source of entertainment around the world. Oh, streaming is the future, but it will probably be 10 years from now. Plenty of time to sell disc-based units.

And don't expect this thing to play movie discs (BD or DVD). Nintendo has shown that they won't pay the fee associated with these formats.

Maybe where you live but where i live (Finland/England) the infrastructure is more than adequate. Everyone in Finland has access to 1 MB broadband by law but it only cost 30 euroes a month for 100MB line which I have. I cant honestly remember the last time i bought a DVD and I don't even have a bluray player. I download/stream all of my media these days in HD and have done for the last 2-3 years!

Being late to the game isn't always a bad thing. It only takes a quick look at Apple hardware specs to prove that.

I highly doubt Nintendo is always late to the game.... Nintendo was the one that brought the video gaming industry up from its knees with innovation. And motion gaming didnt become popular until after Nintendo innovated. Mind you, No company is ever first at EVERYTHING. but i wouldnt say they are LAST at everything also.

Streaming is only for rich people here.

so what if streaming is the future we are talking about games here and unless you want download only games from the cloud next gen we need big disks like blu ray to continue unless you want to keep playing games where you have to change the disk every 1-2 hours. must be fun xbots

25GB of which 50% will be crammed with video cut scenes, 10% will be DRM and updates, 10% will be Games Preview/Demo and 5% will be left Unused

and thats why we have content downloads......

The PS3 had Blu-Ray and was sold at a massive loss in order to kill HD-DVD.

It worked in the end.
