Wildlife guides

I do a fair amount of country walking, and reckon it's time I learned
to recognise more of what I see. To shortcut a lot of googling and
downloading, does anyone know of any concise, illustrated guides
covering birds, wild flowers, and trees, in PPC format please? I
expect they're LAREGE, but I'm prepared to dump some of my WMAs
temporarily to get them onto my CF card.

I, too, have been looking for this sort of thing, specifically for a PPC
bird guide for Europe. If you find anything, please let me know, and I'll do
the same. My personal email address is rick dot cameron at telus dot net.

Cheers

Not heard of anything quite like that, but there is a Wildlife recording
software that you can add pictures to.....think it is called "Wildlife
Recorder" !...
Try:

http://www.wildlife.co.uk/pages/palm.htm

ignore the fact it says Palm...it is for PPC....supposed to be excellent, I
am thinking of it myself.

OK, will do. I'd have thought there was a worthwhile market for such
'field guides'. The equivalent of what I think are called "The
Observers' Book of XXX" series in the UK, where XXX - Birds, Wild
Flowers, Insects, etec.

This requires a wireless connection to the Internet and there aren't many of
those in the places you're likely to find wildlife. And the database they
offer is for American wildlife: the OP was interested in UK wildlife, as I
recall.

The OP could use something like World Off-line to download wildlife websites
onto his PPC. Or he could use something like HTtrack download them onto his
PC from where he could edit them and transfer the result to his PPC.

What I'd like to see is something like a wildlife version of Wikipedia with
a downloadable PPC file in various formats including HTML and PDF.
