Will my asus x50r accept sata/300 hdd?

i have been given an Asus x50r (ap199p)recently and am in the proccess of trying to upgrade what I can. The hard drive is sata 150. Will the motherboard accept sata300? Also can any one suggest any performance enhancing tips?

It will accept it, as SATA II is backwards compatible, but it won't give you any performance gains, i.e. the drive will only operate at 1.5Gbps speeds, not 3 Gbps.
