I purchased a new laptop which came with pre-installed windows 10. If I format my hard drive and perform a clean install of the windows 10 that I got using the media creation tool, would that version of windows be activated or not?

Solution
Setup a Microsoft Account and link your current PC to it , then backup whatever you want to save and perform a clean install on your new setup and activate it with your Microsoft account from within windows.

Create a USB installer here ^

Solution
it will activate. with any laptop you buy now will have the windows licence info is stored in the laptops BIOS. or it will reactivate once you connect it back to the internet

Done it on several of my computers: once you have win10 installed and connected to internet, and it shows is activated, that computer configuration is recorded on Microsoft server linked with your win10.
Reinstalling a clean win10, during the process say "I don't have a key"; at the end of instalation, after automatically connecting to the Internet (Microsoft server), your windows will be activated.
