Will unbalanced speaker cords work on studio monitors

just wondering if it really matters if you use balanced or unbalanced speaker cords for studio monitors?

As I recall the object of a balanced setup was to avoid losses on long cable runs.

As a lead audio technician for four years, I've found that it is best to use balanced cords, they aren't hard to find are aren't too pricey.

If these are self powered monitors i.e. they have power amps inside them then I would say use the same connection that your equipment has (if both use the balanced). If they are not powered then you might have a Neutrik Speakon connector which is circular but it isnt balanced so it won't matter.
